Job Purpose

The role of the Lieutenant is to report to the Captain and assist in the delivery and management of emergency services and resources of Red Sea Fire and Rescue (RSFRS).  The principal roles assigned to the Lieutenant are to carry out general firefighting duties and when required, to assist management of resources both human and material, responding to and taking control of emergency incidents, maintaining resources in a state of operational readiness and safety, health, and welfare. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Report to the Captain and assist as required in operational and administrative efficiency of the fire and rescue service on station
  • Taking charge of any incidents pending the arrival of the Captain or a more Senior Officer and remaining in charge until relieved formally by the Senior Officer
  • Fostering and monitoring a positive and inclusive workplace, eliminating discrimination by continually promoting equality and diversity in Red Sea Fire and Rescue
  • Being responsible for upholding the public image of RSFRS Red Sea Global (RSG) in all dealings with both the public and the media
  • Being responsible for the Health, Safety and Welfare and management of staff in their crew
  • Maintain appropriate skills in digital communication, recording and presentation
  • Producing appropriate reports and briefing the Captain when required
  • Encouraging and supporting crews by helping the crew evaluate their performance and debrief after fires or other tasks
  • Carry out general firefighting duties 
  • Responsibility for updating and maintaining all records pertaining to their duties
  • Responsibility for liaising in a professional manner with all other relevant services including and not limited to Security and EMS Services
  • Attending and facilitating training courses when required
  • Responsibility for the implementation of RSFRS and RSG policy and procedures
  • Serving in any appointed station officer position or location as may be assigned
  • Carrying out such other duties as may be assigned from time to time such as acting up Captain I.


Qualification and Experience

  • Minimum age 25
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience (some of which should be in a municipal setting) of which at least of 2 years must be in an operational team role.
  • NFPA or RSFRS Approved Equivalent
  • Firefighter 1 and 2 (NFPA 1001)
  • Fire Officer 1 (NFPA 1006, 1021, 1037)
  • Fire Instructor 1 (NFPA 1041)
  • Hazmat Technician (NFPA 472)
  • Marine Fire Fighting
  • First Aid
