Assistant Destination Fire Commander

Job Purpose

To manage the day to day Marine Emergency Response operations, complying with processes and systems adopted by Red Sea Fire and Rescue. To manage assigned activities in a water aerodrome to maintain compliance with GACA regulations for  Water Aerodrome Rescue and General Marine Firefighting.


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead, monitor and support people to resolve operational incidents.
  • Determine solutions to hazards and risks identified through inspection and investigation
  • Plan and implement activities to meet service delivery needs
  • Manage the effective use of resources
  • Manage the performance of teams and individuals to achieve objectives
  • Develop teams and individuals to enhance work based performance
  • Provide information to support decision making
  • Aerodrome and maritime emergency planning
  • Command & control and supervision of the crews of a responding resource at emergency incidents and provide any other assistance required, including sector command, first aid, either on own initiative or as directed by Senior Officers.
  • Take over as Incident Commander as required at more complex incidents.
  • To manage liaison with stakeholders in planning, exercises and in the resolution of operational incidents

  • Follow all relevant functional policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely functional MIS statements and reports to meet corporate and functional requirements, policies, and standards.

Apply safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.

Continuous Improvement  

Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of department’s systems, processes and practices considering ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.


Qualification and Experience



  • Bachelors Degree in related subject or Business Administration
  • NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Development or equivalent
  • NFPA 1005 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Marine Firefighting for Land Based Firefighter or equivalent
  • NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications or equivalent
  • Proficient Swimmer: 50 metres swim within 90 seconds
  • 5 year’s experience in a marine supervisory role




  • NFPA 1003 initial /NFPA 405 recurring standard for Airport Firefighter Professional Qualifications
  • IYT Powerboat Skipper up to 24 metres in length or equivalent
  • VHF-SRC CoC Marine Communications Course
