Assistant Destination Fire Commander

Job Purpose

Lead, direct and have line management responsibility for Shift Commanders or other specialists and the staff they manage.

Oversee the operational readiness of Red Sea Fire & Rescue Service (RSFR) services with the goal of providing a high standard of Fire and Rescue capabilities across all RSG assets.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Report to and support the Destination Fire Commander or Assistant Fire Commissioner to implement the RSFR Strategy and to support the operational and administrative efficiency of RSFR
  • Deputize for the Destination Fire Commander or Assistant Fire Commissioner as required
  • Lead, monitor and support people to resolve operational emergency incidents
  • Assume Incident Command at incidents as required within the RSFR Incident Command System
  • Determine solutions to hazards and risks identified through inspection and investigation
  • Enforce policies relating to Health and Safety rules and practices and maintain discipline in the workplace
  • Prepare, monitor and manage RSFR related Opex and Capex budgets
  • Manage the effective use of resources
  • Plan and implement activities to meet service delivery needs
  • Manage the performance of teams and individuals to achieve objectives
  • Maintain operational readiness of all staff, appliances and equipment required to execute the resolution of fire and non-fire emergencies
  • Provide information to support decision making. Produce clear, accurate and timely reports supporting KPI expectations and provide detailed Incident and administrative reports as required by Senior Management.
  • Prepare policies, procedures, guidelines and materials in line with recognized international best practice for assessment and approval by line managers
  • Implement RSFR and RSG corporate policies and procedures
  • Develop teams and individuals to enhance workplace performance
  • Manage and support the delivery of community safety and enforcement programs to protect the public and make communities safer
  • Liaise in a professional manner with all other relevant services and stakeholders
  • Manage yourself to achieve work objectives and maintain your physical fitness to the required standard
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned

Policies, Systems, Processes, Procedures, Standards and Reports

  • Follow all relevant functional policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely functional MIS statements and reports to meet corporate and functional requirements, policies, and standards.

Apply safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.

Continuous Improvement  

Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of department’s systems, processes and practices considering ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.

 

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in related field or Business Administration
  • A proven and capable leader, with considerable experience of leading and managing at a Tactical level within a fire and rescue service
  • Experience of driving organizational change to deliver continuous improvement
  • An experienced Incident Commander, capable of successfully commanding and resolving emergency response incidents
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant operational experience
