Job Summary:

The Senior Manager - Stormwater Drainage is responsible for leading and managing stormwater management and drainage projects, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and developing innovative water management solutions. This role involves overseeing project planning, design, and execution while collaborating with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to optimize stormwater management strategies and infrastructure resilience.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategic stormwater management plans aligned with environmental and regulatory standards.
  • Lead a team of engineers, consultants, and contractors in designing and executing stormwater drainage systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on stormwater management policies, best practices, and innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate stormwater initiatives into broader infrastructure projects.

 

Project Management & Execution

  • Oversee the planning, design, and construction of stormwater drainage infrastructure, including retention basins, culverts, pipelines, and green infrastructure.
  • Ensure that all stormwater projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Conduct site assessments, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and environmental impact studies.
  • Develop and manage budgets, resource allocation, and risk assessments for stormwater projects.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to integrate sustainable and climate-resilient stormwater solutions.

 

Regulatory Compliance & Environmental Stewardship

  • Ensure all stormwater drainage projects comply with local, regional, and national regulations, including environmental and water quality standards.
  • Liaise with government agencies, environmental organizations, and other stakeholders to obtain necessary permits and approvals.
  • Implement best management practices (BMPs) for erosion control, sedimentation management, and pollutant reduction.
  • Develop and maintain environmental impact mitigation plans and stormwater pollution prevention programs.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Work closely with municipalities, government agencies, and private sector partners to enhance stormwater management policies and projects.
  • Engage with community stakeholders to educate and advocate for sustainable water management solutions.
  • Prepare and present reports, technical documents, and policy recommendations to executive leadership, regulatory bodies, and the public.

 

Innovation & Sustainability

  • Research and implement new technologies and best practices in stormwater management, including green infrastructure, permeable pavements, and bio-retention systems.
  • Drive initiatives for climate change adaptation and flood risk mitigation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in stormwater design and management.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in stormwater management, drainage design, or water resources engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; additional certifications in stormwater management or hydrology are advantageous.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in stormwater modeling software (e.g., SWMM, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of stormwater regulations, permitting processes, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and decision-making skills for complex water management challenges.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with sustainable stormwater design and climate resilience projects.
  • Knowledge of integrated water resource management and low-impact development techniques.
  • Familiarity with public sector infrastructure projects and funding mechanisms.
  • Strong background in research, policy development, and technical report writing.
