Job Purpose

Assist in the administration and management of the specialist lighting design and cross discipline coordination   with stakeholder (internal and external) enhancing the design value, engineering and optioneering through different design stages ensuring that the deliverables are submitted and works are executed by the consultants as agreed in terms of quality, standards, materials, schedule and cost in order to meet Red Sea Global's business objectives and requirements.

Job Responsibilities - Functional

  • Proactively take part in the meetings held with various stakeholders (internal and external) to provide support in defining the scope of work, review the design stages presented by the consultants and provide final recommendations to kick off works, and ensure that all necessary prerequisites (such as Project Charters, Kick-off Agenda, Presentation, Project Brief, Reporting Templates, Design Management Plan, Technical Information, Design Guidelines, Project Organizational Charts and Communication Matrix) are in place before physically commencing any part of the works, as needed.
  • Support the management of the Program for all lighting projects, keeping track that all consultant’s submission are done on time and as per the deliverables on each stage.
  • Ensure that all the materials used, and work executed are in line with the contract requirements.
  • Compare planned work versus work executed, ensure that all works are delivered on time and to the required quality and report any areas of unsatisfactory performance to the consultants, making sure that appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • Interfacing between internal stakeholders:  Architecture, Interior Design, Electrical, Sustainability, Security, Structural RSG teams.
  • Support the preparation of design review and general coordination with all lighting design stakeholders to ensure alignment with RSG vision and alignment between all relevant efforts.
  • Achieve creative, effective and cost-efficient design solutions throughout the design process that align with RSG's corporate pillars.

Job Responsibilities - Functional

  • Review the lighting design consultants’ technical submittals to ensure compliance with architectural contract drawings and specifications and quality standards users further contributing to user satisfaction and maximized profitability.
  • Liaise with lighting design consultants to monitor the design development and ensure that the design brief is complied with and the quality / budgets are managed as per plan.
  • Monitor the execution of the project details onsite as needed to control quality and maximize time efficiency.
  • Chair regular coordination meetings as an owner representative between consultants, RSG and contractors to ensure efficient communication between all parties and facilitate the smooth functioning and timely completion of the set objectives.
  • Promote interfaces and relations with consultants and contractors within the context of company policies, standard operating procedures, and objectives.
  • Contribute in the identification and categorization of all lighting products and services required for the execution of all projects and identify a list of potential suppliers/ vendors/ consultants for each.
  • Develop supplier/ vendor/ consultant selection criteria in order to support the evaluation and selection of most appropriate provider.
  • Perform factory visits as needed to ensure optimal lighting products selection for RSG projects.

Job Requirements - Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Lighting design or relevant field. 
  • 7+ years experience in leading the design and management of large-scale, complex, Lighting Design Projects.
  • 5+ years of Hospitality and Public Realm/Landscape Lighting Design Experience as an Associate or Senior Designer in Independent Lighting Design Practices
  • Experience performing lighting mock-ups for project specific applications
  • Excellent communicator (verbal and written) and a good command of English and ability to present confidently to small and large audiences
  • Site work experience to supervise light installation, aiming of fixtures, and scene setting.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Urban or Interior Design from an accredited university required.
  • Masters' degree with postgraduate qualification in Lighting Design is required.  A campus based Master of minimum 2 years is preferred.
  • Professional registration and accreditation with Architect, or a Lighting Design Institute is a plus.

Job Requirements - Skills

  • Detailed knowledge of design development of concept phases, strategies, programs, and costs in addition to international lighting codes and standards.
  • Detailed knowledge of Lighting Design as a discipline, including latest lighting and control technologies in order to be able to provide appropriate guidance to our lighting consultants.
  • Knowledge of Sustainability and Dark Skies
  • Strong leadership ability, rational judgement and reasoning skills, with proven ability to communicate effectively at the design office, site, management, and client levels.
  • Ability to assess designs, highlight risks and give constructive feedback via mark-ups and participation in workshops
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple, design related tasks simultaneously.
  • Fully computer literate, capable of using design programs and applications in checking building design standards.
  • Must be a good team player and decision maker.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Initiative to come up with design processes and innovations to be implemented in our designs.

Job Context

Manager Lighting Design will be based at RSG Site.
