Job Title: Captain I (Marine Emergency Response)

Job Purpose

The role of the Captain I is to report to the Captain II or Assistant Destination Fire Commander and assist in the delivery and management of emergency services and resources of Red Sea Fire and Rescue (RSFR).  The principal roles assigned to the Captain I are management of resources both human and material, responding to and taking control of emergency incidents, Marine fire and rescue and fire and rescue at water aerodromes. Maintaining resources in a state of operational readiness and safety, health, and welfare.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Report to the Captain II or Assistant Destination Fire Commander and assist as required in operational and administrative efficiency of the fire and rescue service on station
  • Taking charge of any incidents pending the arrival of the Captain II or a more Senior Officer and remaining in charge until relieved formally by the Senior Officer
  • Fostering and monitoring a positive and inclusive workplace, eliminating discrimination by continually promoting equality and diversity in Red Sea Fire and Rescue
  • Being responsible for upholding the public image of RSFR Red Sea Global (RSG) in all dealings with both the public and the media
  • Being responsible for the Health, Safety and Welfare and management of staff in their crew
  • Maintain appropriate skills in digital communication, recording and presentation
  • Producing appropriate reports and briefing Senior Officers when required
  • Encouraging and supporting crews by helping the crew evaluate their performance and debrief after fires or other tasks 
  • Responsibility for updating and maintaining all records pertaining to their duties
  • Responsibility for liaising in a professional manner with all other relevant services including and not limited to Security and EMS Services
  • Attending and facilitating training courses when required
  • Responsibility for the implementation of RSFR and RSG policy and procedures
  • Serving in any appointed Captain I position or location as may be assigned
  • Carrying out such other duties as may be assigned from time to time such as acting up as Captain II

  • Follow all relevant functional policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely reports to meet corporate and functional requirements, policies, and standards.

  • Apply safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.

Continuous Improvement  

  • Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of department’s systems, processes and practices

Job Requirements

 

Esssential Qualifications

  • Minimum age 25
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience (some of which should be in a municipal setting) of which at least of 2 years must be in an operational team role.
  • Firefighter 1 and 2 (NFPA 1001)
  • Fire Officer 1 (NFPA 1006, 1021, 1037)
  • Proficient Swimmer: 50 metres swim within 90 seconds
