Job Purpose:

 

The Manager - Fleet Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operational readiness of the bus fleet under contract. The role ensures that all (relevant) fleet are maintained in optimal condition, scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance (PM) are completed on time, and contractor performance is audited and managed effectively. The incumbent will play a key role in ensuring fleet availability, reliability, and compliance with company standards.

 

Job Responsiblities:

 

  • Contract Management: Oversee and manage the maintenance contract with service providers, ensuring all terms and conditions are met. Address performance issues and recommend improvements.
  • Fleet Availability: Ensure maximum availability of (relevant fleet) by monitoring service schedules, downtime, and repairs. Work proactively to minimize fleet disruptions.
  • Auditing & Compliance: Conduct regular audits of the contractor’s maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to industry standards, safety regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Ensure that all (relevant) fleet undergo regular servicing, preventive maintenance (PM), and necessary repairs as per manufacturer guidelines and company policies.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet maintenance, including uptime, service completion rates, and contractor efficiency.
  • Cost Control: Monitor maintenance costs and optimize expenses by ensuring efficient resource allocation and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with operations, procurement, and finance teams to ensure smooth execution of maintenance activities and budget adherence.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all buses comply with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and operational standards set by RSG.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present periodic reports on fleet maintenance status, contractor performance, and any critical issues that need attention.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving maintenance efficiency, reducing downtime, and enhancing overall fleet reliability.

 

Policies, Systems, Processes, Procedures, Standards and Reports

  • Follow all relevant functional policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely functional MIS statements and reports to meet corporate and functional requirements, policies, and standards.

 

Safety, Quality & Environment

  • Apply safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.

 

Continuous Improvement  

  • Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of department’s systems, processes and practices considering ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.

 

Qualification & Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in fleet maintenance, vehicle operations, or related roles, preferably in public transport or large-scale fleet management.

 

Skills:

 

  • Strong understanding of contract management and vendor performance evaluation.
  • Experience in auditing and compliance within a maintenance setting.
  • Knowledge of bus maintenance best practices, preventive maintenance programs, and industry safety standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software and reporting tools.
