Job Purpose
- The Dive Center First Mate is a site-based operational role responsible for supporting GALAXEA Dive Center boat operations and ensuring safe, seamless, and premium guest experiences during all marine excursions.
- Working closely with the Dive Center Manager and Boat Captain, the First Mate assists in daily boat operations, guest handling, safety execution, and vessel upkeep. The role plays a key part in maintaining operational readiness, high presentation standards, and alignment with RSSE, Red Sea Global, and GALAXEA sustainability and service values.
- This position is critical in supporting the delivery of world-class diving and marine tourism experiences while upholding the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and environmental responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support & Guest Experience
- Assist the Dive Center Boat Captain in the safe and professional execution of daily boat and dive excursions.
- Support the Dive Center Manager in delivering exceptional guest experiences aligned with GALAXEA service standards.
- Welcome, assist, and engage guests onboard, ensuring comfort, safety, and a premium experience throughout excursions.
- Act as a role model for service excellence, professionalism, and safety awareness at all times.
Boat Operations & Maintenance
- Support daily preparation and readiness of dive boats prior to all excursions.
- Assist in maintaining vessels in excellent operational and aesthetic condition (interior and exterior).
- Support coordination of routine boat maintenance and basic troubleshooting of boats and outboard engines.
- Ensure accurate completion of daily logs, maintenance records, and safety checklists.
- Assist with safe mooring, docking, diver drop-offs, and diver collection procedures.
Dive Center Support
- Assist with daily cylinder filling operations in line with safety standards and SOPs.
- Support overall dive center cleanliness, organization, and presentation.
- Ensure dive and marine equipment is handled, stored, and maintained correctly.
- Support team briefings, daily operational preparations, and end-of-day procedures.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Safety is the first priority in all operations; actively support safe working practices and emergency readiness.
- Ensure all marine and diving activities are conducted in compliance with approved SOPs, H&S policies, and environmental regulations.
- Be familiar with diving and marine protocols to support efficient and safe diver deployment and recovery.
- Maintain effective communication with the Boat Captain, Dive Center Manager, and operations team during all activities.
Sustainability & Environmental Responsibility
- Support GALAXEA, Sustainability, and SEZ teams to ensure alignment with environmental protection requirements.
- Promote marine conservation awareness and responsible behavior among guests and team members.
- Actively protect sensitive marine environments during all operations, particularly within the Al Wajh Lagoon.
Pre-Opening & Post-Opening Support
Pre-Opening:
- Support RSSE and Red Sea Global teams during the delivery and pre-opening phase of the dive center.
- Assist with familiarization of local dive sites, access routes, and operational zones.
Post-Opening:
- Support smooth day-to-day operations following opening, ensuring consistency, safety, and service quality.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, management, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
- Good knowledge of the Al Wajh Lagoon and surrounding marine environment (preferred).
- Previous experience working on boats with divers or marine tourism guests.
- Hospitality or guest service background in a resort or luxury environment is an advantage.
- Basic boat and outboard engine troubleshooting knowledge.
Skills & Competencies
- Fluent spoken English (additional languages are an advantage).
- Strong customer service orientation with a proactive, “can-do” attitude.
- High attention to detail and commitment to presentation standards.
- Ability to work effectively with multicultural teams and international guests.
- Comfortable handling high-end clientele with professionalism and discretion.
