Job Purpose

The Dive Center First Mate is a site-based operational role responsible for assisting the Boat Captain in the safe and efficient operation of all dive boat excursions. This position plays a key part in delivering exceptional guest experiences, maintaining vessel readiness, and ensuring the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and marine stewardship.

The First Mate supports all aspects of daily boat activities, including preparation, maintenance, and guest interaction, contributing to the overall success and reputation of the Dive Center within the AMAALA destination.


Job Responsibilities

Operational Support

  • Assist the Boat Captain in conducting daily boat excursions safely and professionally.

  • Prepare boats for operations, ensuring all diving equipment, safety gear, and guest amenities are in order before departure.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of boats—both interior and exterior—ensuring they are always in pristine condition.

  • Support daily cylinder filling and assist with overall dive center organization and appearance.

  • Maintain accurate daily logs and records related to vessel operations, maintenance, and passenger activity.

  • Familiarize yourself with dive sites accessible from the asset and assist in coordinating dive logistics.

Maintenance & Safety

  • Assist in the coordination and execution of scheduled boat maintenance to ensure vessels remain seaworthy and compliant.

  • Monitor boat systems and perform basic troubleshooting for outboards and onboard equipment.

  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, emergency protocols, and environmental guidelines.

  • Promote and uphold the Dive Center’s safety-first culture at all times.

Guest Experience

  • Provide exceptional guest service throughout excursions, ensuring comfort, safety, and enjoyment.

  • Support divers during embarkation and disembarkation, equipment handling, and briefings.

  • Anticipate guest needs, respond to inquiries, and uphold a professional, friendly demeanor at all times.

  • Act as an ambassador for the AMAALA brand, delivering memorable, high-quality experiences that reflect the Center’s excellence.

Pre-Opening Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with RSG departments during the delivery and pre-opening phase to achieve operational readiness and alignment with project standards.

  • Support in establishing operational procedures, staff familiarization, and readiness for launch.

Post-Opening Operations

  • Ensure all diving and boating activities are conducted to professional standards.

  • Support the Dive Center team in maintaining operational efficiency, guest satisfaction, and sustainability objectives.

  • Foster effective working relationships with managers, colleagues, and external partners.

Policies, Systems, and Reports

  • Follow all relevant functional policies, standard operating procedures, and reporting systems to maintain operational control and consistency.

Safety, Quality & Environment

  • Apply safety, quality, and environmental management procedures to ensure employee and public safety, legal compliance, and responsible environmental conduct.

  • Support sustainability initiatives in alignment with RSG and AMAALA’s environmental stewardship goals.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities in systems, operations, and guest service.

  • Promote innovation, efficiency, and best practices across all Dive Center operations.


Job Stakeholders (Relationships)

Internal: Dive Center Team, Marine Operations, Sustainability, Safety & Compliance, Maintenance.
External: Guests, Contractors, Regulatory Authorities, and Local Marine Agencies.


Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of the Al Wajh Lagoon and surrounding marine environment.

  • Proven hospitality or marine operations experience, preferably in a diving or watersports environment.

  • Hands-on experience assisting divers onboard vessels.

  • Basic knowledge of boat and outboard troubleshooting and maintenance.

  • Previous experience in high-end or luxury guest service environments is an advantage.

Essential Skills

  • Fluent in spoken English; additional language skills (Arabic preferred) are advantageous.

  • Demonstrated commitment to guest service excellence with a proactive, “can-do” attitude.

  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

  • Team player with the ability to work independently and under pressure.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse nationalities and high-end clientele.

  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to marine conservation principles.

  • Professional grooming and conduct suitable for a luxury resort environment.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to uphold high operational standards consistently.

Desirable Skills

  • Registered Boat Captain license in Saudi Arabia.

  • Outboard engine mechanic experience or certification.

  • Background in marine conservation, diving, or eco-tourism initiatives.

  • Familiarity with marine life identification (fish, invertebrates, reptiles, and mammals).
